Stop Press!
1. The Process Working group are drafting a Communication and Decision Making Process framework to review by the community.
2. We still need volunteers to become the Facilitators of the Groups. Several groups are already active, including EVE and the Old Dairy facilities management group. If everyone can join and participate in one group that will really help reduce the workload of others and move the community forward.
Please email support@villagehub.com.au if you can coordinate any group related to your interest. There are over 40 to choose from. Many are not overly active yet so there is very little work to do.
2. All Members - Please join the Groups you are interested in, to receive information on those topics The main AllMembers Group will soon be used for Generic Key Community information only.
3. Please keep your Profiles up to date.

Help for administrators and moderators
Ecovillage help content for group administrators and moderators.
One Group = One Group Administrator
Each group has one ‘group admin’. Group administrators are appointed through the Content Management System (SmartSite). This is the only activity that needs to be performed through the SmartSite CMS.
Please Note: It is advised to not be logged into SmartSite and the portal at the same time. It can cause performance issues for your browsing.
Administrators choose moderators
Group administrators have the ability to appoint moderators and blacklist members. This can be done from the “Members” section of that particular group. A group administrator’s regular login will give the user access to do this when they login to the portal.
Administrator and moderator permissions
Both group administrators and moderators have the right to author new events; delete inappropriate forum topics and posts from other members; send bulk emails to all members in the group (from the “members” section of a group); and, edit, delete and add new files, documents and pictures in the “files” section of the group.
Only group administrators have the ability to post poll topics.
To perform any of the above activities, you will find text links in the top right hand corner of that particular section (eg. The link “Send email to all members” is found under members section. This link only appears for moderators and administrators, not regular members).
Individual posts, files, topics and events will appear with an [Edit] and [Delete] link right next to them. Use these links to control the content of the group.
Changing Administrators
If a group administrator needs to be changed for some reason, this needs to be performed through SmartSite.
The old group administrator will immediately default to the role of “moderator”. It is up to the new group admin to either: retain the old admin as a moderator (default behaviour), remove moderator access so the member becomes a regular member, or remove the member altogether.
Maintaining the group home page
The group’s home page, or “group’s panel”, can be only maintained by the group administrator. On the top of the page, there is a small link: “Edit Group”. Clicking this link launches a pop-up window where the admin can control: how many events can be shown on the group panel; whether or not they want the group’s poll displayed; the groups introduction description; and a screen to update the groups HTML content using a WYISWYG (what you see is what you get) editor.
Each group has a panel just underneath the group’s introduction that is a straight HTML that can be used to “customise” the group. This section is maintained with the WYSIWYG editor.
There are a variety of buttons - like bold, change font color and size, insert picture etc. - that can be used to customize the group’s home page. These are very similar to the buttons available in MS Word, and with a little practice, it is easy to master the editor’s functionality.
