Stop Press!

1. The Process Working group are drafting a Communication and Decision Making Process framework to review by the community.
2. We still need volunteers to become the Facilitators of the Groups. Several groups are already active, including EVE and the Old Dairy facilities management group. If everyone can join and participate in one group that will really help reduce the workload of others and move the community forward.
Please email support@villagehub.com.au if you can coordinate any group related to your interest. There are over 40 to choose from. Many are not overly active yet so there is very little work to do.

2. All Members - Please join the Groups you are interested in, to receive information on those topics The main AllMembers Group will soon be used for Generic Key Community information only.

3. Please keep your Profiles up to date.

SECOND POSTING- 13 FEBRUARY 2010: The following message has been sent to the editor of the new Village Newsletter this morning:

THE ZULUS ARE COMING!!

In response to an invitation some days earlier, twenty two villagers turned up on Saturday 6th February at the Goodwin’s home for a first meeting and rehearsal of the village choir.  They were all ages, all types and all keen.  Through the next hour that keenness turned to enthusiasm as a result of the skill and leadership of Music  Director, Wendy Miller.  The format for that first meeting was cleverly designed to put us all at ease and to get us singing quickly.  We started with a warm up to get our vocal chords working and that certainly broke the ice pretty well.   Our first piece was  a round.  We did that a couple of  ways which demonstrated the wonderful  harmonies of different voices.  Then it was onto a beautiful Welsh song about old people which, when explained by Wendy, left a lump in many throats.  We then finished with an African hymn – hence the heading above.  I’ll say no more about that piece but you will not want to miss it!
The hour was up all too quickly and as a measure of Wendy’s successful leadership, many stayed on for quite a while to discuss the experience.  If you want to join come to our next rehearsal—Monday 22 February at 7pm in the Community Centre.”

FIRST POSTING:Welcome to the Village Choir, Ladies and Gentlemen.   Your response has been absolutely wonderful -- we now have 30 committed singers!  This is an amazing result from a total community not much more than 100.  And it is even more so when the invitation stressed that this is going to be a serious venture with a target of musical excellence.  That 30 people wish to participate in that is a great tribute to this community of ours.

Our first meeting/rehearsal will be held at my home at 4 DeeDee Lane Currumbin Valley on Saturday afternoon 6 February at 2pm-- that's 2:00pm not 2:01.  Our Music Director is a stickler for punctuality and discipline-- she will do her part and not overrun the allotted time for any rehearsal.  On Saturday we will talk about a number of things including rehearsal times and music types that you want to sing.  We will also need to classify the voices into the four groups SAT&B. As promised earlier this will not be an audition as it usually only takes a few seconds to make the decision.  If you find you're not comfortable it is a simple matter to change to another voice group.

An important matter to be discussed is cost.  We must obey copyright laws so each of us will need his/her own music.  To alleviate the cost to us personally we will need to collect money frojm our performances.  So we will also be discussing how to do that.

An early performance is thus warranted for two reasons-- earn some money and also put the whole process under trial.  An event in  April is my current proposition.

We  will also start singing one of Wendy's African pieces for which she has sufficient copies of music to go around. So we will get to the fun part.  Saturday is going to be limited to one hour.  I will be able to tell you when and where the next rehearsal will be-- I am aiming for the Community Centre at some time on the weekend.
